Fiscal Decision Making Criteria

I support finding a reasonable balance between fiscal reality and the need to attract high quality personnel.
During the course of this year and in previous years, people questioned the salaries allocated to administration of the school district. I understand the need for comparability with other schools in the area for the superintendent and principals. Comparability is a reasonable policy in order to attract the quality of personnel we need. But comparability is not the only test. Background and years of experience are also valid tests that enter into comparability. The new process for evaluation that includes setting and meeting goals will be useful.
I support careful scrutiny of funding needed for the overall operation of the school district.
There is a need to apply the test of reasonableness to the amount of funding needed to expend in the operation of the school district. Funds needed to run the district in terms of maintenance, student, building and central office records, etc., and personnel needed to operate the district need to be carefully scrutinized. For example, time required to collect and report student achievement data to the Department of Education went from 40 hours to 4 hours in the space of one year. Staffing for that position needed to be lessened, not increased. We also need to carefully review the amount of money needed for the operations of the district.
I support the school district policy for curriculum review before adding or revising courses or curriculum within courses
The school policy for curriclum review is in place to lessen the chance of mistakes that sometimes occur when changes occur too quickly and without adequate input of people who are responsible for delivering the curriculum. Because these decisions are also fiscal decisions, funding and curriculum are linked.
I support collaboration between the IT personnel and educators
Technology is essential in the operation of the district as well as in integration into the learning process. The most efficient use of tax dollars needs to be a mutual decision the people using the technology and the people charged with making technology work.
