| I have been fortunate to be one of many individuals working for the past year and a half to make this vision of a Regional Academy for Mathematics and Science a reality. Even though my role has been a small one, I have been amazed at the progress that has been made by people involved in economic development in Oelwein to locate funding for this facility. The Academy, in conjunction with the proposed Tech Spec building, has the potential to bring high-paying technology jobs to our community.
In addition to economic health of our community, the benfits to our students can be great. They will have access to cutting edge technology and the type of high-level mathematics and science courses that we probably couldn’t afford to offer on our own. It builds on the system we have for students to earn college credit while in high school and provides an opportunity for a seamless transition from grades 11 and 12 grade to a local Community College facility. I fully support efforts to involve OCSD and NICC staff in the planning for this facility.
